Pretty China Purchase

Following my spontaneous trip to Tk.Maxx today, I just had to share one of my purchases on my blog. As some of you know, I am completely obsessed with anything pretty for the home, my favourite being pretty vintage floral patterns and china. So, when I saw this english garden tea set in store I just had to buy it!

Inside this oh so pretty presentation box was a sugar bowl and creamer, both fine china. I have slowly started collecting bits and bobs for this imaginary house that I will eventually have, a bit of a 'bottom drawer' if you will. I always keep an eye out for gorgeous bits of homeware that are also affordable and I think Tk.Maxx is the perfect place. The above set is by 'Creative Tops' who have a wesbite shop called The English Table, which I've fallen in love with. They have some of the most gorgeous home-ware, I particularly love the china, especially the Kate Alice Collection. I was lucky enough to find this in TkMaxx for just £6 .. what a bargain, but I've also noticed how reasonable the prices are on the website too, so there's another pile of things I've added to by 'to buy' list!

Anyone else love homeware as much as me? Does anyone else have a 'bottom drawer' or a bunch of things saved ready for when they move out? (please tell me I'm not the only one)

FOTD : Interview Makeup & ramble

If you follow me on twitter you may know that today, I had an interview! Yes, that's right - I finally got called for an interview. Here's a bit of background information, I have been job-hunting for quite some time, I was lucky enough to land a 3 month office job at my uni however that ended in March so since then I've been finishing up with uni and trying to find a job to settle into now that I'm almost a graduate. Today's interview was for an Admin role at a supermarket - only part time, but I felt like the job suited me well!

So ... here's what makeup I wore .. It's essential to make a good first impression, so I wanted to go for a natural look, not too made up and something that made me look awake! Outfit wise, I wore smart black trousers, a floral vest and a casual blazer which I felt was appropriate, smart but still showing a little bit of personality. I kept the jewellery to a minimum and just had my regular charm bracelet on and wore my hair down (which I regret, as I fuss with my hair when I am nervous).

For my face I started with a mattifying moisturiser, then opted for bourjois healthy mix foundation as it's great coverage but still gives a natural finish that isn't OTT. I used my mac studio finish concealer in NW15 under the eyes and on blemishes and finished with rimmel stay matte powder as I definitely didn't want any shine! For cheeks I used bourjois chocolate bronzer to add a bit of colour back in and then used natural collections peach melba blush on my cheeks as it's a lovely natural peach colour that is quite subtle. On the eyes I used some shades from sleek's storm palette, and also used this to highlight the inner corners of my eyes as this made me look more awake (it was an afternoon interview, but I had a rubbish sleep!). I also used my new avon eye primer which I reviewed in my previous post to ensure my eye makeup stayed put. I used my avon blonde glimmerstick for my eyebrows and then loreal telescopic mascara for my lashes and kept these quite minimal and not too 'in your face'. To finish I used my MAC msf in light all over, then went for my MSF in soft and gentle as a highlight under my brow and on the tops of my cheeks. For lips I just used a clear nivea lipbalm and didn't add any colour!

I'm back from the interview now, I feel positive about it - I answered all the questions, came accross as confident and feel like I showed my personality and enthusiasm, so fingers crossed. My make-up stayed put too!

I hope this gave you some ideas if you are wondering what make-up to wear to an interview, my theory is go for a natural look, but something that makes you feel confident and smart!

Review : Avon - Eye shadow primer

I finally managed to track down an avon rep (well, my mum did) and I found myself writing down a huge order of new things to try and old favourites. I have to say, I used to order from avon a lot - so I was really glad to be able to order again, as they have some great products which are quite affordable too. I also like Avon as they have regular offers and deals which mean you can stock up on your faves when they are on offer - which I do all the time, I love saving money & bulk buying. Just me?

Anyway, I digress - one of the products that made it onto my order was their eye shadow primer, which is something I'd never seen before. Looking at the brochure picture and the packaging, I felt this product reminded me of mac's paint pots in the sense that it is a small glass jar and a neutral toned eye base similar to the likes of bare study which I've been eyeing up for a while. So I ordered 'Light Beige' and I'm happy to say I love it!

As you can see, the product is pretty similar to paint pots in terms of packaging and this little glass tub houses 3.5g of product. Unlike mac's paint pots which are quite firm in texture, this is soft and almost mousse like - it basically feels the same as any other liquid primer you get in a tube such as the infamous urban decay primer potion or elf's eyelid primer which I use frequently.

Top - blended & bottom - regular swatch

The primer blends in really well and is invisible once applied, yet it evens out the skintone on the eyelid - which is a strange thing to say, but as someone who has rather 'vain-y' eyelids, this is great! After trialling this  several times, I'm happy to report that it actually works. I've personally never had a bad experience with a primer, and this is no different. It reduces creasing of eyeshadows, especially cream eyeshadows and helps the colour become more defined in powder shadows. I found my eye make-up lasted a full day, so this is great for nights out or long days as my eye make-up stayed crease free and stayed on! This could also be worn on it's own just to even out the lid colour too which is great!

The eye shadow primer retails at £7 but is currently on offer for £4 which I think is great! I do believe you can order online from Avon if you don't know any reps so that's a bonus - this is something I will buy again, however I can see this lasting a very long time as a little tiny bit of this is enough for both lids!

Have you tried this particular primer? If not, let me know which ones you have tried below.

Top 5 drugstore lipsticks

This is the second installment in a series of 'top 5' themed posts, where I am sharing some of my favourite products from each of the beauty categories, you can see my top 5 lipglosses here. Today's post is lipsticks; lovely lipsticks - something I own far too many of yet constantly lust after more. I have to be honest and say that I was always a lipgloss gal, until I started to experiment with lipsticks and became totally hooked. So here are my top 5 lipsticks, geared towards spring/summer:

rimmel kate moss loreal lovely rose maybelline coral pearl dainty doll storm in a teacup cheap fragrance direct haul revlon lip butter juicy papaya
L-R Rimmel Kate Moss shade 101; Loreal Caresse shade lovely rose; Maybelline Colour sensational shade coral pearl; Dainty Doll shade storm in a teacup; Revlon lip butter shade juicy papaya.

For me the Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick is the perfect matte pink and reminds me somewhat of Mac's creme cup only a little darker and more purple toned, which I like. This formula is very long lasting, matte and can be a little drying .. nothing a bit of lipbalm won't fix though, they are also very affordable at £5.49 in boots! The loreal caresse comes in slightly more expensive at £8.19 and is at the more expensive end of the drugstore in my opinion. The rouge caresse lipsticks are very similar to the revlon lip butters in the sense that they are very moisturising and almost balm like, however these loreal baby's pack a punch pigment wise and give a lovely wash of colour over the lips. Maybelline's coral pearl is in fact the only maybelline lipstick I own, but I often find it being my 'go-to' lipstick and it's probably the only shimmer shade I ever wear when it comes to lipstick. This dainty doll lipstick was a bit of an impulse purchase after seeing the dainty doll collection for just £1.99 on fragrance direct - of course, being a lipstick fiend I just had to order one. Storm in a teacup is a rather strange shade, almost like a muted mauve with a hint of brown in there, unlike anything else I own but it's a rather welcome change from the usual pinks/corals I wear! Juicy papaya is a sweet coral shade and is just the perfect coral for me, I've reviewed this in more detail here

What's your favourite drugstore lipstick? I'd love some recommendations!

Ritz & Rolo snacks: Thankyou Pinterest

Today's post is a little different from the norm, it's a food post! Now, I personally wouldn't class my self as a 'foodie' but I am partial to some oggling over delicious food on pinterest! The other day I stumbled accross a 'recipe' for salty/sweet chocolate-y snacks and I literally couldn't resist making them.  I immediately repinned the photo and made a mental note to pick up some ritz and rolo next time I was at the supermarket.

What you'll need:
Ritz Crackers

Simply pop a rolo on top of a ritz cracker (salty side down), bake in the oven for approx 5 minutes or until the rolo is metled and then just pop another ritz cracker on top until the rolo gently spreads out. GENIUS.

& it turns out these little treats were absolutely delicious, granted they are not the healthiest  snacks in the world but they are worth it! If you enjoy the whole salted caramel flavour, then these are definitely up your street - if not then try them any way! You never know, you might love them!

Let me know if you try these!

Mac shy girl dupe

My recent post on a potential mac lipstick dupe for speed dial which proved quite popular, so here's another  dupe post for you for another mac lipstick! As I mentioned in the previous post, love Mac lipsticks hate Mac price tags so it's always good to keep an eye out for similar shades which look just as lovely on! Todays is of shygirl (£14.50) which is my favourite nude lipstick and Rimmel's lipstick in 'notting hill nude' which is just £1!

As you can see, they look pretty similar in bullet form and both present as a pinky toned nude, perhaps shygirl is slightly lighter! What I like about shygirl is that it doesn't apply like a concealer nude (mac myth, I'm looking at you) so I don't feel like it washes me out - this goes for the rimmel shade too!
top - shy girl
bottom - notting hill nude

As you can see from the swatches they are pretty similar shades of nude, both on the pink/coral side of nude as opposed to the brown or beige nude - which is something I like. I actually purchased my lipstick in a local discount store and had no idea what the shade would be like as I couldn't see through the packet, but I'm so glad I picked this up. I've tracked down an ebay seller where this is available for £1 so if you did want to get one yourself you can here, the seller also stocks Oxford St Fuschia which is a very good dupe for speed dial (see previous post).

Will you be purchasing this? If you know any good dupes, please share them with everyone below!

NOTW: Big Money ft Lychee

Okay, you may have seen me post this on instagram last week however I never got around to sharing it on my blog! I'm actually in love with this glitter polish from Sally Hansen; it's called 'Big Money' and is an absolutely gorgeous mix of fine gold glitter and larger specs of lilac glitter - could it be any prettier?

Base coat; Barry M gelly shine in lychee (1 coat) and Sally Hansen Gem Crush 'Big money' (1 coat)

I wasn't expecting this to come out the way it did in just one coat, I usually end up having to do at least 2-3 coats of a glitter polish but this is gorgeous and opaque in just one coat! The sally hansen Gem crush polishes are £6.99 in boots and I'm eyeing up a lot of other lovely colours too!

Have you tried these Gem Crush polishes? If not, what's your favourite glitter polish, or are you not a glitter fan at all?

Lush Haul

A little while ago I popped into Lush and stocked up on a few favourites of mine & had a lovely little browse around all the goodies in store. I seriously love that shop, I know some people find the staff a bit in your face but personally I've always had an excellent experience in various stores and I am always over the moon with the level of great customer service you receive - what other shop on the highstreet can you go in and receive similar service? Anyway, I digress - the point of the blog post is to show you the goodies rather than talk about customer service, so here's what I got ...

Seanik solid shampoo  £5.25

Jungle solid conditioner  £2.95

Space Girl bath ballistic  £2.10

The comforter bubble bar  £4.25

The only new thing I purchased was the jungle solid conditioner, this was mainly because I knew I had enjoyed the solid shampoo and wanted to see how the conditioner worked on my hair (which I don't know yet, as I was a good blogger and waited until I photographed it).The seanik solid  shampoo is something I really like, I find it to be quite clarifying and it leaves my hair feeling super clean, it also lasts ages so works out pretty good value for money! The space girl ballistic is something I just can't leave a lush store without buying, it's pretty, has a little sparkle and is one of the cheaper bath treats available at lush - if you haven't tried it, you must - your bath water looks amazing with this! Finally I picked up another comforter bubble bar, which just smells amazing - the epitome of lush, it's super sweet and yummy so it's not for those who don't like sweet smells but for me this is a firm favourite!

I'd love to know what your favourite lush product is, and if you have any recommendations... or are you not a lush fan?

NOTW: Budget summer polish!

Following Sunday night's #bbloggers chat on twitter, I thought I'd include a recent Nail post using a super affordable nail polish brand, Miss Sporty. This is a brand I've often over looked as it's something I associate with younger makeup, however even for my 22 year old self they have some amazing products in their collection. One of my favourites are the nail polishes which are only £1.99 and actually on a 3for2 at the moment in Superdrug which is awesome!

Unfortunately the polishes don't have names the only marking on this bottle is the number 0 on the bottom of the glass which I'm guessing is the shade number! This colour screams summer, it's the perfect mix of ocean blue and spearmint green it just reminds me of summer. What I like about the miss sporty polishes is the thick applicator which makes application quick and easy and the fact that they dry really quickly! I used my ultimate fix drying spray and these lasted a good 3/4days chip free - which for less than £2 is amazing!

Have you tried any Miss Sporty polishes?

p.s I have a blog giveaway running which you can find in my side bar where you can win a hot cloth cleanser!

April Favourites

So, a slightly late monthly favourites post this time around however I have been super busy these last few weeks! I've officially finished uni after sitting my exam on Thursday 9th, and I also handed in my very last assignment!! I think I get my results some time in June, but as of yesterday I am FREE! Of course, this means a few hours of everyday is spent searching for jobs - but it also means I have a lot more spare time to dedicate to my blog.

monthly favourites skincare makeup bourjois argan oil primark lush lip scrub budget makeup

Garnier Simple essentials 2 in 1 makeup remover - £2.99
I've been really enjoying this as it's the first makeup remover I've found that works quickly even with mascara and eyeliner - it's also really gentle and although it's half oil half liquid, I don't find it too oily on my skin!

Seventeen Dolled up mascara (brown/black) - £6.29
I've been really enjoying this mascara lately, it's the only one I have that is black/brown not just black and I honestly can't tell the difference with the shade - so that's not really relevant as to why I like it! I like it as it compares to my loreal telescopic mascara in terms of length! It's amazing for making my lashes look longer and defined and also holds curl well - it's not amazing for volume, but for lengthening it's fab!

Kleenex facial cloths - £1.99
A pretty random purchase for me, but I love them! I'd heard several people talk about them including Fleurdeforce so I grabbed them when I saw them half price. They are great for taking off makeup as they are thicker than a normal wipe and really soft too! I like to use these with my 2 in 1 makeup remover above and find this is a great combo.

Superdrug Vitamin E hot cloth cleanser - £5.99 (win one in my giveaway
This product is lovely, it smells delicious and feels so luxurious on my skin! After running out of my Liz Earle cleanse and polish this has become a firm favourite and I just really enjoy using it. It makes my skin feel very clean and fresh and I feel it just looks better after using this! I'm running a giveaway on my blog to win one these as I loved it so much, so make sure you go and enter that for a chance to win one! You can find the link above or in the sidebar.

Hask argain oil (primark) - also available on amazon for £1.99
I asked on twitter for hair oil recommendations and lots of you told me about this one from primark! THANKS. I really like it, I apply to towel dry hair especially on the ends and it definitely makes a difference to the look and feel of my hair! An absolute bargain of a price too.

Bourjois healthy mix foundation - £9.99
I'm not sure if bourjois have just repackaged or actually changed the forumla of healthy mix? (do let me know in the comments). Either way I've been reaching for this foundation most this month, so it was only right to give it a place in my monthly favourites

Maybelline 24hr Colour tattoo 'on and on bronze' - £4.99
This is a constant favourite for me, the shade and formula is perfect and I've just been reaching for this regularly this month. I've majorly hit pan on this and I'm going to have to make a repurchase soon!

Lush bubblegum lip scrub - £5.25
My lips have been a nightmare lately; they have been dry and flaky and I've found that this really helps. I know you can make your own, which maybe I'll try next time once I've emptied this jar but for now this does the trick and smells delightful.

Nivea Hydro Care lip balm - £1.99
I've mentioned Nivea lip balms before - and they really are my favourite. This one is perfect for keeping in my handbag or putting on before I go to sleep; it's soothing and hydrating. Perfect!

What have been your favourites this month? Have you tried any of the above products?

Empties #4

Empties #4 - April

So much for saying I probably wouldn't do empties post every month... here I am with another bunch of products I've used up in the last month. So I'll jump straight into it ...

Schwarzkopf got2b guardian angle heat protection spray
This seemed to last me an absolute lifetime, I had it for well over a year and used it everytime I straightened my hair, which is usually only once a week at max (sometimes I don' straighten it for AGES). This did the job, I felt like my hair was protected in some way and it did help reduce the damage to the ends of my hair especially as these are bleached. Overall a good product but nothing that 'wowed' me - although it did smell good.

Diesel loverdose body lotion
Diesel loverdose is one of my favourite scents, if you haven't given it a whiff please do! It's liquiorice (how do you even spell that??) which sounds so wrong, but smells so right! This body lotion was lovely, it sunk straight into the skin and left my skin smooth and smelling amazing - not sure I'd go out of my way to repurchase this as it was just an extra that came in the perfume gift set!

Primark sweet vanilla diffuser
I liked the smell of this, but it DID NOTHING. I love having smelly things in my bedroom like candles, oils and diffusers but this literally had no effect. You could only really smell it if you shoved your face right against it, which I suppose is what you get for the £1.50 price tag. Note to self, don't purchase this again even if you are tempted when queuing up at the till.

Bath and Body works 'warm vanilla sugar' body mist
Ahhhh, I actually love this product. My lovely sister bought it back from Canada for me and this spray is reason enough for me to book a flight to US/Canada just to visit bath and body works. It smells delicious, lasts a long time and I received so many compliments and people asking me what perfume I was wearing whenever I used this! You can find it on ebay, but it's a little bit expensive - the cheapest I've found is £10.95 for the larger bottle!

Batiste dry shampoo in tropical
For me this is an essential! I feel this is the best dry shampoo I've tried and the tropical scent is my favourite! Other 'own brands' of dry shampoo such as superdrug etc just don't live up to this one - the only problem I find is that this can make hair look a little chalky so you really have to rub it in well! Always a repurchase.

Various packets of wipes
The leopard print pack are from primark and are just handy to have in my handbag as they are anti-bacterial! I go through these like nobody's business, and I also quite like the smell - I will repurchase these as you get two packs for £1, you can't go wrong.

The two packets of kleenex wipes I bought from home bargains on whim as they were 69pence each (they retail at about £2-£2.50). I really liked the face wipes as they felt more like a cloth than a wipe, they were thick and also quite moisturizing and really wet so they did a good job! The smaller packet were specifically for eye makeup, and I found these gentle enough to use on my sensitive skin which was great so I'll definitely repurchase these if I see them at that price again.

Have you managed to use a few things up this month? I'm getting quite good at this whole empties thing!

Dupe alert : MAC speed dial

As a 'beauty blogger' I think it's safe to say I am a lipstick fiend - I love the stuff. Of course, one of my favourite brands when it comes to lipstick is MAC, which I know is a bit cliche but I love them. What I don't love is the hefty £14.50 price tag here in the UK, which is pretty extortionate for a lipstick if you ask me (well, for my budget anyway!) So, I quite often keep an eye out for any dupes and similar shades from the drugstore brands & I thought I'd share one on the blog today!

As you can see on first appearance they are very similar shades - both sporting the matte pink finish, with the rimmel lipstick being slightly more purple toned than speed dial.

Top - MAC speed dial
Bottom - Rimmel Oxford St. Fuchsia

As you can see in the swatches above, they are VERY similar, so I'd recommend this to anyone who wants something similar to shy girl for a fraction of the price. I actually found this in a local budget/discount store but it's sold in Superdrug for £6.15 or even better on ebay for £1.65!!

FOTD: Neutrals

Here's a quick 'face of the day' which I didn't manage to upload on the weekend! You may notice that I usually don't do FOTD's and this is probably because I tend to wear the same things on a regular basis so I feel it would get pretty boring quite quickly! I've been making an effort to switch things up a little, and I was happy with my make-up on this day so here it is:

Products used:

Bourjois healthy mix foundation shade 51
Elf studio coverage concealer shade sand
Real techniques buffing brush
Rimmel Stay Matte powder

Mac MSF in soft and gentle
Dainty Doll blush in 'you are my sunshine'
Chanel soleil tan de chanel bronzer

Elf eyelid primer
Urban decay naked2 palette
Loreal telescopic mascara

Rimmel brow pencil in dark brown

Mac Speed dail

I can't believe it's MAY already! Where has the time gone this year? I've finished uni and have one exam next week and then I am completely free and the 'real world' begins. Until then I am blogging away and planning a few giveaways for you guys! Upcoming posts include my april favourites and empties! Have a good week!
