Maybelline baby lips - are they worth the hype?

I apologise if this is the fifty billionth blog post on Maybelline's baby lips that has popped up on your news feed, but I thought it was only right to let you know my thoughts on these little fellas as one of them made an appearance in my monthly favourites post. They are a hugely hyped product with everyone under the sun talking about them and us beauty fanatics here in the UK heard SO much about them before we could even get our hands on them thanks to our bloggers and vloggers across the pond!

Currently there are 6 shades/flavours on offer in the UK. Three of which are tinted and leave a wash of colour on your lips (no SPF) and three of which are colour-less but contain SPF. They are all priced at £2.99 (I snapped mine up on a 3 for 2 offer at Boots). In terms of packaging they are brightly coloured and stand out on the shelves compared to the likes of our typical lip balms (nivea, carmex, vaseline etc). I personally like the packaging, it's cute and colourful and is strudy enough to take a light battering in the bottom of my handbag!

I chose the three tinted versions, which have no spf but provide a light wash of colour or tint to the lips. These are Cherry Me (a subtle red/deep pink scented of cherries), Peach Kiss (a nude tint scented of peach) and Pink Punch (a soft pink scented with passionfruit).

Cherry Me, Peach Kiss, Pink Punch.

In terms of application I was surprised how soft these were, I kind of expected them to drag on your lips whilst applying as most coloured/scented lip balms tend to do this. These applied smoothly and were quite wet and almost glossy in consistency if that makes sense. You can see in the photo above that they are quite shiny - which gives them a moisturising feel when applying - granted feeling this doesn't last long but I didn't expect it to!

When swatched, you can see that these are quite subtle and don't rank highly in the colour pay off - however they are not marketed as a lipstick or lip butter - they are a lip BALM so we can't expect it to be massively pigmented. I am impressed with the lovely subtle tint of colour they leave and I do think this is noticeable when wearing! Everytime I wear cherry me, someone always asks me what I have on as it looks quite red/deep pink and shows up well on my skin tone. Peach Kiss is a lovely nude tint and is a great way to add a little bit of something to your lips without having a full on colour. If you struggle to pull off a nude lipstick, or often find they can wash you out then this might be a great buy for you. Pink Punch is probably my least favourite of the three as when applied it tends to separate a little on my lips and cling to any dry patches and almost feels like a different formula to the other two shades.

Overall I am a fan of the baby lips. Yes they were extremely raved about and very much hyped before they even arrived, but they are a decent product. They aren't earth shattering-ly brilliant but I personally expected a lip balm with a subtle tint of colour which is exactly what I got. They are an excellent handbag essential and easy to apply on the go without worrying about mistakes and they are pretty reasonable at £2.99 a piece!

What do you think of these? Do you have a favourite shade... or are you not a fan?

    1. I really like them, I'm not going to purchase the clear balms as I don't see the point but I really like the tinted ones and I've been using them a lot. :) xx

  3. I really like the Baby Lips, I didn't think they were that brilliant at keeping my lips that hydrated but I like that they give a subtle hint of colour so they are great for during the day :) xx
