Avon Haul

This week my order from Avon arrived with a bag of brand new products for my to play with and try out! What I like about Avon is the amount of offers and promotions they have in every single brochure (and online) and you can get some great products for a really reasonable price. So here's what I ordered:

avon haul uk offer free coupon gift morrocan oil primer winter 2013 mega effects paintbrush mascara

Senses Winter Cocoon bath and shower creme - £3 currently on offer for £1.50

New Mega Effects mascara in blackest black - £10

Advance techniques Moroccan Argan Oil leave in treatment - £5.50 currently on offer for £3.50

Then I received a free gift by ordering the £10 mascara, which included an eye primer (which I already have and I have reviewed here), an eyeshadow brush, makeup removing lotion and an ideal flawless concealer! Not bad for a free gift, huh? They are all products I will use so I'm really happy with my purchases. I'm so intrigued by the mascara, so expect a review of that coming soon and I can't wait to try out the hair oil too!

Miners Cosmetics Matte factor & More

A little while ago I was lucky enough to win a twitter competition from Miners Cosmetics and I received 3 new products to try out, which are themed for SS14 from London Fashion Week. Miners Cosmetics are an affordable line of cosmetics available both online and in various stockists in the UK, but I'd never tried anything from the brand before. So here's what I got:

I received a set of 3 products; A colour Kohl eye pencil in gold, an eyeshadow trio in safari and a matte factor lip colour in peach. I've been using them for a while now, and thought I'd include them in one blog post with a mini review on each product!

The colour kohl eye pencil retails at just £1.99, which is a brilliant price! I like the packaging of the product and it doesn't look cheap at all. The formula is very soft and blendable, making this great for blending into an eye look aswell as giving you a precise line for a liner. I've enjoyed using this just on my bottom lash line for a bit of sparkle and it really brightens the eye. It also is very long lasting and doesn't budge throughout the day. This is also available in blue, black and brown.

miners cosmetics neutral shadow trio safari

The eyeshadow trio is again packaged very nicely, it's sturdy, compact and doesn't feel inexpensive despite being only £3.99. The safari shade contains 3 neutral shades, which is always a good thing - you can never have too many neutral shades right ladies? In this trio there is a bright, warm gold in the middle which I like to apply all over the lid, a lighter brown on the left which I like to use in the crease. As well as a darker brown to the right which is great for defining the crease even more, for a smokey look. All three are shimmer shades and are very pigmented, there is a small amount of fall out on application but that is to be expected with shimmer shadows - nothing to major.

miners matte factor peach

The matte factors are probably one of miner's most popular products, so I was excited to try one! They are completely matte lip paints that give a vibrant, bold colour, essentially like a liquid lipstick. What I love about this shade, is that you can get two different looks with it. You can apply it fully for a bright, bold lip or you can dab it lightly for a your lips but better, subtle lip colour that lasts a decent amount of time. They also have a gorgeous almost vanilla like scent which I personally love! I'd love to try more shades of these, and they retail at just £3.99

All in all, I have been left thoroughly impressed by Miner's Cosmetics! These three products are now sitting safely in my makeup collection and being very much loved, especially the matte factor lip paint which I use all the time! You can find a full list of stockists on miner's website or you can order online!

Lierac Micellar Cleansing Water Review

Lierac is a brand that is entirely new to me and one that I have quite honestly never heard much about before. I have recently been trying out some new skincare products and switching up my skincare routine a little in an attempt to find products that; I like, are good for my skin and that do the job they are supposed to. This Demaquillant Douceur Micellar Cleansing Water* from Lierac is a new addition to my skincare routine and one that is working!

Lierac cleansing water micellar french skin care bioderma farmaline chemist

Removing makeup can sometimes feel like a chore at the end of a long and tiring day, and it can be so tempting to commit the ultimate sin and fall asleep with a full face of make-up! However, as I'm sure you have all heard, time and time again ... this is a bad thing and sleeping in makeup can have really negative effects on your skin! In the past I have tried a lot of oil based makeup removers, ones from the drugstore/highstreet that have an oil layer and a water layer that you shake together - however these have never 'wow'ed me' and I've never repurchased the same makeup remover twice as I've never found one that I liked enough to repurchase!

Lierac cleansing water micellar french skin care bioderma farmaline chemist

Micellar cleansing waters are essentially products that contain oil molecules in soft water, designed to eliminate impurities without stripping your skin of its natural moisture. This is a sample size of 50ml, however the full size of 200ml retails for around £14 and comes in a handy pump bottle which is available from online retailers and Online Pharmacies. This is suitable for face and eyes and is a no-rinse formula, so ideal for those who want something quick and simple to remove the days makeup, whilst gently cleansing and toning at the same time.

I found this product to be quite strongly scented although it states that it is suitable for sensitive skin. However, my skin had no problem with this and it was actually very gentle and soothing on my skin, despite the strong scent. It removes makeup well and I found that this worked well with heavy eye makeup and water proof mascara, which is great! I apply a small amount to a cotton pad and use all over the face and eyes and I feel as though my face is clean and it leaves little in the way of residue. I follow this up with a night time moisturiser, and I feel like my skin is good to go! Although it's slightly more expensive than what I would normally pay, a little does go a long way and it actually works for me. This is widely available online in full size and I've also found it at a bargain price for the trial size on a few different websites!

*PR Sample, views my own as always.

Catrice Cosmetics: Absolute Nude Palette Review

My lovely friend Lauren from MBLM recently sent me a little gift in the post which included this nude eyeshadow palette from Catrice Cosmetics, which is a brand that isn't fully available here in the UK - but is popular in Ireland! Of course, being a girl who is 100% in loving with neutral eyeshadows of any kind I couldn't wait to try this out!

The palette itself is very compact and slim, which makes it ideal for travel and taking with you in a makeup bag! The front is clear which allows you to easily see whats inside and it's very sturdy. It retails for around £5 (euros are confusing) for 6 shadows, which is very affordable if you ask me!

catrice cosmetics nude palette naked dupe drugstore highstreet irish

The palette also comes with a standard applicator, however it also is double ended and has a pretty soft blending brush on the other end. Personally, I prefer to use my own eye brushes but this is definitely an added bonus compared to the standard foam ones that come with most drugstore/high street eye palettes. If you're on the go this will be another great feature, or if you like to use the applicators provided then it's a win-win as you get a sponge end and a fluffy end!

The palette contains 6 neutral shades, all very wearable and all of them being shimmer shades. The shades range from a light, highlight shade to darker colours which are ideal for the crease. My favourites are the lightest shade, which I like to pack all over my lid to make the other colours pop and then I also use it for highlighting in the inner corner and sometimes on the brow bone! The next three shades in the palette are great for all over lid colours and are very wearable and soft shades. Finally, the last two shades are great for adding depth to your look and applying to the crease for a smokey but neutral eye look.

In terms of formula the shadows are quite soft and pigmented when applied. They apply true to the colour in the pan and are easy to blend and work with. I've noticed that the darker colours in the palette are slightly more powdery in texture, meaning that there is sometimes a little bit of fall out but nothing too major at all! All in all I am so impressed with this little palette from Catrice! It's got everything you need for a neutral look and the colours are so pretty when applied, even on an everyday look!

You can see more about the palette on Catrice Cosmetics' website here

MUA Matte lipsticks collection - review & swatches

There are so many amazing new beauty products on the highstreet at the moment and MUA are churning out their new releases like there's no tomorrow! They have recently provided us with a range of Matte Lipsticks retailing at just £1 each and in 5 amazing shades. For the price tag, I just had to get my hands on the whole collection and I am really impressed - so here's a quick review and swatches of each of the shades for you all!

Peachy Keen || Pouty Pink || Scarlett Siren|| Totally Nude || Wild Berry

Unlike MUA's standard range of lipsticks, the Matte editions come in a white and silver packaging which I prefer to the black. They look far more expensive than what they really are and they are very compact yet also sturdy and not 'cheap' feeling. I was impressed to see that there were 5 shades in the matte collection ranging from nudes, pinks, peaches, reds and purple - so there really is something for everyone in this collection, especially for matte lipstick lovers like myself!

PEACHY KEEN: A wearable subtle peach shade

POUTY PINK: A soft natural rose pink shade

SCARLET SIREN: A classic matte red shade - yet very wearable

TOTALLY NUDE: A warm nude shade

WILD BERRY: A bold deep berry purple shade

In terms of formula, these matte lipsticks by MUA surprised me in the way that they are not drying and they actually apply quite smoothly with an almost wax like texture which makes application easy. The lighter shades; totally nude and peachy keen are very pigmented and apply as a solid colour. Pink pout and Scarlet Siren apply very similar to how you expect from looking at the bullet, but perhaps a bit more sheer which I like as I don't like a full on lip colour when it comes to brighter matte shades. Wild Berry is my favourite of the bunch without a doubt. It looks very scary in the bullet, but it applies beautifully and is a stunning sheer but buildable berry purple which is unlike anything else I own.

I'd definitely recommend these to anyone like me, who wants to experiment with different colours this Autumn/Winter but doesn't want an 'in your face' bold lip. At £1 these are perfect for any budget whether you are just starting out in makeup, looking for school friendly makeup or a complete makeup addict like myself! They are available directly from MUA's website and also from Superdrug stores, although three Superdrugs I visited didn't have any in stock at all - so buying them direct is probably your best bet!

Which is your favourite shade?

OOTD: Faux Fur

I've recently been offered a new job and I'm in that awkward transition period of waiting to start work. I'm trying to make the most of the days where I can lounge around the house wearing whatever I like and snuggle days with a duvet, dvd and munchies as I'm sure those days will be few and far between once I start my full time job! Now that the colder weather is upon us I realised that I don't have anywhere near enough warm clothes and there was a distinct lack in the 'knitwear' section of my wardrobe! So here's a new addition that I absolutely love!

OOTD plus size outfit simply be knitwear winter leggings size 26/28

Grey Multi Faux Fur jumper - Simply Be £25
Black 'Ponte' leggings  - Simply Be £14

I love Simply Be for their Knitwear and jumpers as I often struggle to find knitwear that is comfortable and roomy enough to wear as a baggy jumper! This faux fur jumper is great, it's really soft and fluffy which makes it perfect for those 'chill' days when you really want to wear something warm and snuggly. It's a mixture of black and white 'fur' with a chunky black trim on the sleeves and bottom. I sized up in this as I wanted a big slouchy jumper rather than a fitted piece. I'm also loving these Ponte leggings from simply be, which are basically thick trouser type leggings. Although they don't have a zip or buttons, you could easily wear these as trousers, they are very thick and you won't have to worry about showing anything through them as well as them being flattering on the stomach as they have a thick waist band! So, thanks Simply Be - I am loving this cosy, winter outfit!

p.s excuse the hair, after all it was an at home snuggly kinda day!

The accidental Boots haul

Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that I am unable to resist a 'bargain' price and I cannot simply walk into boots to buy a bottle of water. I have to peruse the new makeup releases, browse skin care offers and load up my basket with goodies - only to leave the store with a lighter purse. This is exactly what happened on my recent trip to boots, I popped in for a drink and left 30 minutes later with a shedload of products in my carrier bag. Brilliant self control there, Jess.

boots uk drugstore beauty haul bargain discount code

A couple of these items were purchased at the beginning of the week, and these were the Real Techniques expert face brush which came in a £10 and has been used non-stop since being purchased. I've really enjoyed using this to apply my foundation quickly and evenly. I also picked up one of the balmi lip balms in coconut from Boots which I haven't tried out yet but I am excited to do so and a Schwarzkopf Got 2 be rockin it dry shampoo from poundland!

Then, onto the bargain boots haul which included zero self control. Firstly I discovered a new release from Bourjois which is the 'Happy Light' matte serum primer which is on an introductory offer of £6.99 (usually £10.99). I'm yet to find a 'drugstore' primer I really like so I thought I'd use this intro offer as the opportunity to try this! There is also a skincare offer on at the moment which is 3 for 2, and I knew I wanted to pick up one of the Vaseline Spray & Go moisturisers which are £4.99. With this, I also chose the Biore blemish fighting ice cleanser for £4.99 as I'm looking for some new skincare products to help with breakouts. For my third item in the 3 for 2 I chose this Witch Blemish Gel spot treatment after reading a couple of reviews on blogs about drugstore blemish treatments. This was £3.29 but free with the skincare offer!

I noticed that Witch Skincare also had a skin clearing primer available and thought that this was something I'd be interested in! It didn't have a price on the shelf, but after asking one of the staff it turned out to be on offer for £2 instead of the usual £6.99. It also happened to still be in the 3 for 2, so the savvy shopper in me decided to purchase 3 of them for just £4 in the hopes that it is something I will like! Off I went to pay at the till, and ended up grabbing a 50ml bottle of ck one which was half price at £11.50 - and this is being stored away ready for an xmas pressie!

So I definitely got some bargains there! In total I purchased over £85 worth of products for just £43! I'd say that was definitely a bargain boots haul!

Non-beauty favourites #1

I thought I'd do something a little different this month and share some of my non-beauty related favourites! I post monthly about my beauty favourites and there are so many other things I enjoy so here's a little collection of some recent 'things' I am loving!

Read: Slimming world magazine - I've been picking up this mag for the last few months and I really enjoy the recipe ideas and often try out a new recipe from the magazine! I also love to read the inspirational stories in the magazine when I'm having one of those days when I feel like I am failing!

Food: Mini Matchmakers Mint - ironic how this is my second favourite after a slimming world magazine? These are such a delicious little treat and I can't get enough of them! I can sense them being a christmas fave?!

Fashion: A little while ago I picked up a new purse, it's black with embossed filagree patterns and small silver studs and best of all it was £2 in the Primark sale! It's the perfect size, it's big enough to fit everything it but it is in now way bulky! I often switch up my purses but I've basically stuck to this one for the last couple of months!

Youtuber: Recently I've been loving Miss Budget Beauty 's videos! I've been watching Khila's channel for about 2 years now and I still enjoy watching her videos when they pop up in my subscription box. Her reviews are probably one of the most informative and honest when it comes to drugstore beauty products and I often discover new products to try through her videos! I also love her Vlog Channel - definitely worth a watch!

App: I can't get enough of Instagram. It's addictive and I go through phases of uploading lots of snaps and browsing through hundreds of pictures. You can follow me here

Candle: I've been loving this mini Seychelles candle from The White Company lately. It's a gorgeous scent combining coconut, amber and vanilla! The candle is also one of the few candles I have used that burns cleanly and despite being a mini candle the burning time is great!

So, that's it for my non-beauty favourites! Please let me know if you enjoy these posts, and I'll try my best to do them on a regular basis!

The Autumn Blush : Mac Plum Foolery review

With the change of seasons in full swing, I've been trying my best to switch up my every day make-up so something more 'autumn appropriate' (if there is such a thing). Of course, you can wear whatever you want on your face in the colder months but I love to reach for my favourite Autumn blush which is 'Plum Foolery' by Mac. It's the very first purchase I made from Mac and it has served me well over the past couple of years!

mac plum foolery blush genuine real fake blusher
As expected from Mac, the blush has a rather unfriendly price tag of £18 for 6g of product.

mac plum foolery blush
Plum Foolery is described as a 'faintly plum' shade and is part of the sheertone shimmer blush range, meaning the formula is quite sheer but also pigmented and this means it blends really easily. You can acheive a light sheen finish but also build it to a full on blush. Its a deep rose/plum shade with tiny gold shimmer particles throughout which makes for a very pretty finish.

mac plum foolery swatch blusher blog

I love to wear this in autumn to give my cheeks that rosy glow, and also add a bit of colour into my face when the cold mornings become more frequent and I need a bit of help in the 'looking like I am actually awake' department.

What's your favourite autumn blush?

Embrace your inner nerd - 5 facts about me

Recently I was tagged by the lovely Shona from Freshbeautyxoxo to take part in a slightly different tag! This tag is all about releasing your inner geek/nerd and telling your readers 5 'nerdy' facts about you! So here's mine:

I love making lists ...
in fact, I am a list freak. I would sit and make lists about every aspect of my life if I could. There's nothing more satisfying that writing a fresh to-do list and crossing out the things you've completed. I currently have a little spreadsheet in place to plan my christmas-present-buying and I love it!

I used to play the flute..
for 2 years in primary school. I thought I was pretty good, I didn't get a grade or anything mind you but I can still remember how to play twinkle twinkle little star! I only stopped because I was terrified of joining the compulsory school choir in high school!

I love disaster documentaries ...
if there's anything on about volcanos, earthquakes, shark attacks, tsunamis, hurricanes etc I am there. All of the above things terrify me, but I just can't help but get engrossed in a tv documentary about them!

I like to collect things ...
The obvious one being make-up, a slightly more grown up collection. However, I'd like it to be known that I also had a rather impressive collection of bouncy balls and more keyrings than any sane human being would need in their life time. I also like to collect things to add to a memory box and hold onto to little sentimental things like receipts, completely normal.

I love English ...
All through school english was my thing, I loved reading othello for my GCSE's and I actually re-read King Lear for my a levels four times for fun. I think I was the only one in my 6th form who actually liked it, I even bought the dvd. I used to make up my own little poems around the age of 10 and I thought I was the bees knees. I flit in and out of being a book worm, and when I can find the time - I thoroughly enjoy getting lost in a book!

So there's five little nerdy facts about me! I'd like to tag a few other lovely bloggers to embrace their inner nerd:

So ladies (& gents) feel free to release your inner nerd, everyone loves something a bit nerdy!I'll leave you with a recent lyric I've loved, which just about somes this up

"You're feeling nervous, having your doubts ...
Don't be embarrassed if you don't fit in the crowd.
Keep standing tall, and hold your ground ..
Show 'em it's not okay to let them kick you down" Jessie  J

,Barry M : Natural Glow palette

I'm sure it wasn't just me that was intrigued when I heard that Barry M were going to be releasing a range of palettes containing eyshadows and blush. Barry M is probably most famous for their amazing, affordable nail colours which I am a big fan of - and I hoped I'd be a big fan of the new palettes too!

After seeing them swatched over on The Sunday Girl's blog I new I wanted to try out the neutral palette, as I'm sure you all know .. I'm quite the fan of neutrals! So here's what I thought:

The palette is very compact and not at all bulky in terms of packaging. It is a thick cardboard outer-packaging with a decent sized mirror for on the go applications and a magnetic closure. I'm not sure how durable this would be after a few trips in the handbag, but then I guess I'd never really take a palette with me anyway other than overnight stays, so not a problem.

barry m natural neutral naked palette
Inside there are 6 eyeshadows, 1 blush and 2 foam applicators. The palette has 2 matte shades; an light cream/almost white which is perfect for an all over base colour to help make other colours more vibrant once applied and a soft tan shade which is very similar to 'naked' in the original Naked Palette. Speaking of the naked palette, you'll find a couple of these shades are in fact 'dupe' worthy and very similar to the kinds of shades found in both urban decay palettes. The remaining 4 shadows are shimmer shades and are slightly more pigmented that the matte shades. The blush is a lovely soft pastel pink with a subtle shimmer running throughout. Once applied it is a very gentle shade, and very subtle but it does add a lovely shimmer and almost highlight to the cheeks, so depending on your skin tone perhaps this would work as a highlight for you!

barry m naturals palette swatched

The palette retails for £6.49 and there are 3 designs in the range; natural glowSmoking hot which contains everything you need for a smokey eye and Glamour Puss which contains slightly more vibrant, glam colours! If like me, you are a fan of neutral eyeshadows and wearable shades then I'd definitely check out this palette - it's a very reasonable price and I've been really impressed! They are available in both Boots and Superdrug and from what I've seen - the neutral palette is perhaps the most popular of the three!

Have you tried any of the palettes yet? Which is your favourite?

Nanshy Makeup Brushes : Eye Brush Set

Makeup brushes are an essential part of my daily makeup routine and I am forever looking for the perfect tools to make application easier, quicker and better! In terms of brushes and applicators available in the UK it's often difficult to find anything other than the infamous real techniques brushes, which are brilliant but there isn't a vast range of them in terms of eye brushes! Having tried the eye kit from real techniques, I found I only actually used the deluxe crease brush and in actual fact I used that for concealer not eyeshadow!

So, I am very happy to share with you today - an amazing new line of brushes from Nanshy which is a collection of 7 eye brushes. Nanshy is a British brand and the following collection of brushes are 100% Vegan and cruelty free!

nanshy packaging
The kit contains 7 individual brushes, meaning that there is a range of sizes and shapes to suit most applications and make eye-makeup looks easy to re-create! In the kit you will receive:

Precise bent eyeliner brush
Angled detailer brush
Flat Definer Brush
Blending eyeshadow brush
Eye Crease brush
Tapered crease brush
Large Shader brush

nanshy makeup brushes
Each brush is a pearl white finish, silver head and a sturdy appearance - quite unusual compared to the standard designs you tend to find with makeup brushes. All bristles are synthetic and 100% cruelty free and have antibacterial qualities. The bristles are black with white tips and are hands down the softest eye brushes I have ever used. Each brush is labelled, so if you're not a makeup pro (which I am definitely not) this will come in handy when getting to grips with the vast array of brushes and different uses. Of course, like any brushes you can use them for whatever you like - the angled definer works amazingly for powder or wax eyebrow products!

nanshy makeup brushes eye

nanshy eye brush kit makeup brushes

My favourites from the kit are the large shader brush, the tapered crease brush and the blending brush. Having used these brushes everyday for the past week I've had to wash them - which is always something I'm a bit worried about as some brushes don't endure the wash! I'm pleased to report that these brushes from Nanshy washed well, they didn't shed a single hair and kept their shape and returned to their original colour!

As this is a brand new release from Nanshy you can sign up to find more information about the release date, availability and a discount code on their website here. I'm absolutely loving having these in my daily routine, and I'm excited to try out more of Nanshy's brushes, I've heard their face brushes are also fantastic and these can be purchase on BeautyStore4u which will also release the eye kit soon!

My favourite Autumn Lip colours

Autumn is now in full swing and it's no secret that I am a fan of the colder months. I love everything about autumn and winter, even the dark mornings and the rain. This year I am making more of an effort to try some new makeup out during the 'changeover' from Summer to Autumn. Although some of these are old favourites, there's a couple of newbies in there too - to make up my top 5 autumn lip colours!

Mac Shy Girl || Maybelline baby lips 'cherry me' || Kate Moss 101 || Dainty Doll 'storm in a teacup' || Collection deluxe 'prohibition'

Autumn is typically all about the berry reds and deep shades, but for someone who is a firm believer in neutrals and soft pinks this can be a bit daunting. I've never been one for strong, bold lip colours and I like to stay in my comfort zone when it comes to lipsticks for fear of not being able to 'pull them off'. This little bundle of 5 is a mix of some of my favourite all year round shades and a couple of new additions that are more on the autumn side of things.

Mac Shy Girl || Maybelline baby lips 'cherry me' || Kate Moss 101 || Dainty Doll 'storm in a teacup' || Collection deluxe 'prohibition'

Shy Girl by Mac is my favourite ever nude lipstick, it's very wearable and really suits my skin tone well and most importantly doesn't wash me out or give me those 'concealer' style lips! Rimmel also offer a great dupe for this shade for a fraction of the price! Maybelline baby lips in 'cherry me' is a new addition but one I love. With the weather being colder, tinted lipbalms are great as they provide a bit of moisture and also a subtle wash of colour - cherry me is a deep pink/light red colour which easily finishes a makeup look in a hurry and is great for keeping in your handbag! Rimmel's Kate Moss lipstick in 101 is the pink one of the bunch, however I like that it is 100% matte in colour and is a dusty, muted pink as opposed to a light and girly pink, which makes it perfect for autumn looks! The Dainty Doll lipstick has the cutest name ever 'storm in a teacup' and is also a beautiful nude, which is more on the brown side with an almost purple tone to it - again, this looks lovely on and is quite dark once applied. Finally, the most recent addition and the one that is most out of my comfort zone is Collection's 'prohibition' which is part of their deluxe range. This is a gorgeous deep berry colour, and is a happy medium between a pink and a red. Although this is very different for me, applied lightly its actually really easy to wear! I will eventually get around to wearing this as a full lipstick, once I get used to seeing myself with a full on colour on my lips!

What are your autumn lipstick staples?
