Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara Review

maybelline brow drama sculpting brow mascara negative beauty blogger reviews

In my last beauty haul I mentioned that I was excited to try out Maybelline Brow Drama sculpting brow mascara as I'd heard some good things about it and never tried anything like it before. Brow mascaras seem to have evolved from the clear mascara and these tinted sculpting brow mascaras seem to be more popular than ever especially with the release of Benefit's Gimme Brow gel which everyone and their mother seems to love! Given that the benefit version is £17.50 and the Maybelline one is £4.99, I thought I'd give it a go!

To sum up my thoughts on this product is one word I'd chose 'disappointed'. It's just not that great and didn't work for me at all. I'm not one for writing negative reviews but I just need to share my thoughts on this and ask you all if you had a similar experience. For starters, I chose the shade dark blonde which I would normally choose when it comes to brow products but this literally had no pigment or colour pay off what so ever? It took a good bit of scraping against my brow to even get the slightest tinge of colour to show up.

Secondly, the brush is pretty useless. The round ball shape on the end gives little precision and is quite messy to apply as it gathers a bunch of product on the end and the comb bit further up is almost impossible to use as it never comes into contact with the brow hair. If I wiggle it about to comb your hairs into place I end up with it all over the shop.

Thirdly, the formula is strange. It applies really wet, which sounds quite obvious given that it is a mascara but my eyebrows literally looked greasy - not a good look if you ask me. However, and here's the biggest fault with this product for me - one hour later my eyebrows were crusty. I'm not kidding you, they literally became rock hard and you could visibly see the product solidifying and then flaking off.

I do like the outer packaging, the overall design other than the brush and the price point. But other than that this was a fail for me. Given the fact that there is absolutely no colour pay off with this, it first makes my brows look greasy before turning them into a crumbling mess...It's safe to say I won't be using it again. For £4.99 it is potentially a bargain beauty buy, but considering that I could buy a cheap £1 clear mascara to essentially do the same job I think I'd go for the later.

Was it just me who had a bad experience with this product? I'd be interested to know if you have tried a different shade and found it to give some colour pay off? Or maybe you tried the same as me but loved it? I suppose I could have just been given a dodgy tube.
